Engagement Ring VS Wedding Ring

In the Western tradition, the Engagement ring is used to propose to the bride/groom. This ring usually has a diamond and jewelry that looks expensive and stands in the middle of the ring. This kind of ring is called the Solitaire Ring.

Engagement Ring This ring will be the ring that the bride will wear from the proposal day to the wedding day, to say that she is engaged.

For wedding rings, it is usually a demure and plain ring. It might be a simple diamond band, an eternity ring or a plain metal one. These kinds of rings are popularly called Wedding Band which is used in the Western culture for exchanging ring ceremony.

During the ceremony, the bride will put the ring on her right ring finger first. Then, the bride will put the ring back to her left ring finger again. This is the origin of wearing two rings. However, sometimes after the wedding ends, the bride might wear only one ring, depending on her lifestyle and preference.

In Thai cultures, there is no actual evidence of the history of Thai wedding rings and engagement rings. There is only dowry that includes money and other valuable things that the groom brings for the proposal. But in practice, the groom mostly will prepare at least 1 ring for the ceremony and also can bring another ring to give to the bride after the ceremony ends. But in the age where cultural exchange is widespread like these days, Western culture has more influence on Thai people causing Thai wedding ceremonies to have both an Engagement ring and a Wedding Ring which, is a different ring as described.
