Platinum is a very heavy, precious, silver-white metal, platinum is soft and ductile and has a high melting point and good resistance to corrosion and chemical attack.

“Platinum” used to have a higher price than “Gold” as it is a rarer metal. In making jewelries, platinum is harder and more durable than gold, which makes the cost higher as well. Platinum jewelries in general have a minimalistic design and a simple style, with few details. As the price of gold keeps increasing, the price difference between platinum and gold becomes smaller, but because platinum is more complicated to work with, the making, reparation and restoration costs are usually higher, including the size adjustment cost.

3. Platinum Percentage Options

Platinum purity varies, just like gold. The most popular platinum percentage is at 95% (stamping 950) and 90% (stamping 900). Sometimes they might be at 85% and 65%.

4. Strong and Durable

Platinum is known for its durability, which is precisely why it is often used as the crafting mounting for diamonds or jewels with high values. The mountings made of platinum are very strong and always shiny, needing less services like replating as it might be needed for gold mountings. That is because platinum is chemically inert and will not oxidize in air at any temperature.

5. Ideal for those with sensitive skin

Platinum is also known as a friendly material for sensitive skin because it has no need for chemicals to help with shine. Unlike gold or silver, which may use plating or other techniques to make the metal shinier, platinum is a better choice for people with sensitive skin.
